White or Ivory Wedding Umbrellas

Wedding umbrellas are becoming more and more popular for several reasons.  Of course, when we think of umbrellas we think of protection from rain or sun.  However, wedding umbrellas have become more than a  protection from the elements.

Today wedding umbrellas are most often purchased in white or ivory to match the color of the bride’s dress.  The fabric of the umbrella can also match the fabric of the wedding gown.  Often in outdoor weddings the bride may carry the umbrella down the isle as an accessory.  The umbrellas selected as accessories are generally smaller and frilly like a ladies parasol.  If the wedding is held midday the bride may continue to hold the parasol during the ceremony to protect her from the sun.  Most often the maid of honor would hold the umbrella as the bride and groom exchange vows.

Bridesmaids often carry smaller matching parasols if the wedding is held outside.  The parasol generally rests on the shoulders of the bridesmaids as the vows are exchanged.  Of course, it is most important for outdoor weddings that incorporate the use of umbrellas to be well planned.  Regardless of the time of day, when planning the wedding the alter where the vows are exchanged should be situated so that the sun shines on the backs of the bride and bridesmaids.  It is not necessary to have the sun shining directly in the face of the groom or groomsmen.  The party can be positioned to prevent direct sunlight from shining in the eyes of the men.

Wedding umbrellas are also used as a gift for members of the wedding party.  As indicated in the picture above, the umbrella celebrates the couple and the wedding date.
